Another weekend  (November 20th, 2005)
Travel was back on my itinerary for Friday with a visit to London linked with the Eurapart site. It was good meeting other webmasters, albeit if I was the only amateur one there. Was pleased to meet up with my oldest school friend who is having a rough time with his divorce. Makes me feel glad to know that mine is behind me and that I have other things to get on with such as arranging a ski holiday for my sons. It will be a first for us all. Avoriaz sits at the top of my list at present, but I picked up information from the French, Italian and Austrian Tourist Boards in London.
The way the weather is freezing here in Chester perhaps we only need to go up to the Welsh mountains. I don't think there are many instructors there somehow.
Sunny Sunday in Chester  (November 13th, 2005)
Got all the backlog of ironing done this weekend following my trips away for the last 3 weekends. Got out to the swimming pool for a swim and sauna, while dropping off some glass for recycling on the way. As I was crossing the bridge by the railway station I heard an aircraft flying over the city. Closer examination revealed it to be a a Spitfire the famous World War 2 fighter. It made a few low level runs over the city. It was so low that it was below the level of the blocks of flats and had to take evasive action on one run to avoid collision with the lead tower. (This is a tower attached to the old leadworks from which molten lead was dropped. This would form a ball and solidify as it fell to make musket balls).

I haven't got a photo of a Spitfire to hand to post but may dig one out from my archives in the meantime here is a photo of Chester.
Catching rainbows  (November 12th, 2005)
While driving over the Pennines to see my son at Huddersfield today the sun shone through the rain and formed a vivid rainbow. The bizarre thing was that as I drove I was getting closer to the end of the rainbow. It was not at all the feeling I had when a little boy that if I got there I would find a pot of gold. I knew that it should be impossible to reach the end of the rainbow in this world. In fact from an aircraft rainbows form circles. It all ties up with a recurrent dream since childhood of trying to go through very smal tunnels knowing that they were so small that if I went through I would not be able to return. What does it all mean. I think I have a good idea.

Just to round off this post, I have uploaded a picture of the Deutches Eck at Koblenz which marks the end of a travel down the Moselle. Now of course there is the Rhine and then the North Sea and the oceans. Travel is infinite. Another note worthy of mention is that the European Budget Travel information that was occasionally covered by this blog will now be found on European Budget Travel News. This will have news and my comments on the same. This blog will continue as a more personal weblog.
In Bruxelles again  (November 5th, 2005)
Just got back from a short trip down the Moselle in Germany. Beautiful scenery, food, drink and weather. The ghosts have stayed away but the Burg Eltz castle apparently has its own ghost (Agnes) who died defending her honour and the castle from an unsuitable suitor. This doesn't really count though as she doesn't leave the castle. The walk up there was a sensory feast through the forest from Mosellekern. The smells were particularly worthy of mention. The smell was of Fruits of the Forest.
The photograph shows a view of Burg Eltz castle as it comes into view from the footpath up from the Moselle River.

Now in Bruxelles once more. I will post some more soon.
Thursday  (October 28th, 2005)
Its getting late on Thursday. Work is a real pain at present. The sit in the traffic jam, catch colds, flu, the politics, pointlessness of it all...
So to cheer myself up here is a photo from last years Cow Parade in Manchester. Here is Chester's contribution Daisy Dee..
